Preparation for Tuesday

This Tuesday, that is tomorrow, I intend to try playing Shikenbisha with the mino castle on the right, like so: Link. I have yet to use it properly in a game, so I will see how it turns out tomorrow. For that purpose, I will be recording the kifu so hopefully I'll be able to analyze the game here on this blog.
In addition to that, I will be bringing my little brother to the Shogi Club for the first time tomorrow, so I wonder how it will turn out. This morning, he told me he had come up with a secret strategy against me and when we sat down to play and opened up our bishops' diagonals, he moves his knight to 77. I thought it was just a random move, since he hasn't been showing enough interest in shogi to research strategies, but the next move, he moved his knight again and I casually asked him if he was trying to "kill the demon." He laughed and told me that he watched a video by Hidetchi on YouTube (The video, for reference), which taught him how to do the Demon Slayer. It really felt so cool that he is watching the same videos I am and then I felt even cooler when I mated him soon after :D

Shogi Brothers!

Today I took my younger brother Pulato to the Shogi Club in Prague. When we arrived, Filip and Jiři were already playing a game, so I was setting up the board to have a quick game with Pulato, when suddenly a little boy came up and said he wanted to play him! Naturally, I gladly let him take my place and moved on to observe the other game that had been going on. This is the board I walked in on: As you can see, both players used very similar structures, using both their silvers and a knight to attack. Meanwhile, my brother had won his first game of shogi, mating his opponent with a cheeky knight drop! Unfortunately I do not have any pictures for that :'( A little while after, I began my game with Jiři. The playable kifu can be found here . The Road to Meijin???

With a title like that, I sure set the bar high, didn't I? Do I really believe that I can become a Meijin ? No. Do I want to play like one? Fuck yeah. Now I have been playing shogi for a grand 2 and a half a months and am set on becoming a strong player. In order to document my progress, I have decided to launch this blog, where I will write about new strategies I am studying, books I'm reading and people I'm trying to beat. Naturally, my current shogi knowledge is very scarce - I know a few Joseki and some trick moves, but I always lose my lead whenever I manage to gain it and start making stupid moves whenever my opponent gains the lead. That's why I will first focus on improving one attack at a time, so that I am ready for every move that can be made against it and am not taken aback by unexpected attacks or strong defenses. I don't expect people to actually read or follow this blog, so I guess this will be more like a shogi diary of sorts.
